Summer in Vancouver
Although the weather last month would have you think otherwise, summer has arrived
in Vancouver! Any Vancouverite knows that July and August have more events packed
into them then any other month. If you happen to be in Vancouver on an extended business
or personal trip, and staying in one of Golden City Rentals' furnished Vancouver apartments
be sure you step outside and check these events out.
The Annual Chinatown Festival
Vancouver's Chinatown is large and well renowned, as an homage to the influential
role the Chinese people played in the history of the city.
The area between Keefer and Columbia streets will play host to a festival of multiculturalism
between August 14 and 15 as thousands of people converge on these city blocks for the biggest
street party of the year. Every year there are dozens of food vendors, Chinese cultural stage
performances, and walking historic tours of Chinatown. Without a doubt there is something
for everyone!
This year marks the 125th anniversary of the festival, and according to event organizers
the theme for 2010 is going to be "Leap from a Proud Heritage".
A Day at the Beach
One of the best ways to spend the day in the city without spending any money
is to simply go to the beach. Vancouver is fortunate enough to have some of the
best beaches in the country, so any beach goer is certainly in luck.
If you are beach-bound for the day be sure to check out Kits beach, which is located
near Cornwall Ave between Yew and Arbutus, or Jericho beach which is located on
NW Marine Drive near the UBC Endowment Lands.
Abbotsford Air Show
Without a doubt, one of the more spectacular sights in the city is the Abbotsford Air Show.
Located at the Abbotsford airport, which is just a quick 45 minute drive from the downtown core,
the airshow provides a exciting day filled with spectacular entertainment.
Every year the Canadian Snowbirds, the Air Force's demonstration team, puts on an amazing
aerobatic demonstration which is sure to leave you breathless. In addition to the displays
in the air, there are also a number of static displays on the ground that let you get an
up close look at a number of planes.
