Five Great Places to Eat in Vancouver
If you are renting a Vancouver furnished apartment and here on an
extended business trip, you might get to know the city pretty well. You will
be familiar with most of the sights and sounds and know about the places
to go. The thing about Vancouver is that there are so many culinary gems
hidden around this city, places to eat and drink that only the locals know
about.
1) The Hub Restaurant and Lounge 1165 Mainland St www.hubrestaurant.ca
Located in the trendy Yaletown district of Vancouver just steps from the Canada Line,
The Hub offers a sophisticated yet laid back atmosphere and a basic yet eloquent menu.
While this could be considered standard Yaletown fare, what draws
the crowds (well myself atleast) to this venue is the $6 before 6 appetizers.
Everything on their appetizer menu is only $6 before 6pm. And it really is
everything, and not in some sort of junior size either. The crab legs and
calamari have my recommendation.
2) Burgers Etc 4091 Hastings St http://www.burgers-etc.com/
Burgers Etc is truly one of those 'hole in the wall' places. Occupying
a quaint little store front space near Boundary Rd on Hastings St, the
eatery only has room for two dozen customers at most. During dinner hours
a line often forms outside the door of people eagerly waiting to try what
CTV Vancouver, and many others have called "The best burgers in Vancouver".
While the burgers are the main attraction, their menu is more than that. They
also have a selection of smoked BBQ sandwiches that are simply delicious.
If you don't have a vehicle, take the 135 or the 10 bus.
3) The Salt Tasting Room 45 Blood Alley, Gastown
The Salt Tasting Room is a wine and cheese bar located in Vacouver's historic
Gastown district. They specialize in platters of cheese, meats, and other finger
foods paired with wines, beers, and sherries that compliment creating a unique
and memorable culinary experience. They only use ingredients sourced from
within a 100 mile radius, so your culinary delight comes without enviromental guilt.
4) Vancouver Alpen Club 4875 Victoria Drive
Located just off Commercial drive, the Vancouver Alpen Club Deutsches Haus offers
authentic German cusine, accompanied by steins of beer. The setting is quiet, and there
is never too much of a crowd which makes it a great place for conversation. While the
servings are quite generous be sure to leave room for dessert. The strudel is simply delicious!
It is located kind of in an out of the way spot, about 20 minutes from the Downtown core
by car. If you are using Translink take the skytrain to Commercial-Broadway station, then
the 20 bus up Victoria Drive.
5) St. Augistine's Restaurant and Lounge 2360 Commercial Dr.
St. Augistine's may look like just a regular pub, but there really is
more to it than just that. While the pub fare there is excellent, the steak
sandwich and beef dip especially, what makes this joint stand out from
the rest is the impressive selection of beer they have available.
Their beer menu has offerings from almost every micro/craft brewery
in the province, and some from the Northwest United States and Alberta.
Microbrewery beer often has a more bold flavour than macrobrewed ale
such as Budweiser. When properly paired with food, the flavours from the
food and brew compliment and enhance each other. Vancouver and the
region are particularly well known for having superb microbreweries, so why
not try a micro brewed beer at St. Augistine's.
Vancouver is a world class food destination. Its always a good idea to venture
away from your Vancouver furnished apartment rental, or Vancouver corporate
housing because you never know what culinary delight you may find.
